Applied Cardiovascular Biology Mini-Symposium
Applied Cardiovascular Biology – DownUnder - a mini-symposium, organized in the tradition of the 2005 Cape Town, South Africa mini-symposium, will take place in Darwin, top-end of Australia on August 13 and 14, 2007. All ISACB members and guests are welcome to participate.

Please contact Julie Campbell (julie.campbell@uq.edu.au) if you are interested in attending.

The plans are as follows:
The mini-symposium will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 32 Mitchell St., Darwin NT 0801, Australia with the scientific exchange all day Monday, August 13 and the morning of Tuesday 14. To book your accommodations at the Crowne Plaza, contact Allison Burns on +61 8 89100704, +61 8 89800838 groups.nt@ichotelsgroup.com and quote number ISA. Otherwise, Darwin has plenty of hotels, of varying prices, all close by.

The format of the meeting will be similar to that in Capetown, with one person leading off for 15 minutes, with slides, then open discussion with or without slides.

The topics already suggested are:
1) Biomaterio-genomics
2) Nanotechnologies in cardiovascular therapies
3) Challenges in animal models (including genetically altered animals and their use in understanding device-recipient interactions)
4) Challenges in clinical trials
5) Status report on tissue engineering in the broad sense
6) Tissue-engineered blood vessels (including their use in the study of vascular tone/pathophysiology)
7) Stem cells in cardiovascular tissue engineering
8) Vascular mechanopathobiology
Since there is generous financial support for this meeting from Servier Laboratories there will be no registration fee for the mini-symposium, with the cost of the conference facilities, etc covered. However, you must register by emailing Julie Campbell. Everyone pays their own airfares, accommodations, and meals. It is suggested that you plan a family holiday as there is plenty to see and do in the northern part of Australia (Kakadu National Park, Uluru, The Kimberley, Great Barrier Reef, etc).

For travel arrangements we suggest you investigate Jetstar Airways (a discount offshoot of Qantas) and Tiger Airways which both fly to Darwin from Singapore. You can also fly to Darwin on Qantas from Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Perth and Sydney; on Jetstar Airways from Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne; and on Virgin Blue from Brisbane and Melbourne.

Please contact Julie with any questions you may have. G’day!
